Filling the gap in Aquaculture Education in the Caribbean
First webinar for teachers. What is Aquaculture? Aquaculture in the Caribbean
On Friday, December 1, the Caribbean Aquaculture Education and Innovation Hub (CAEIH) will host the first in a series of webinars to introduce the concepts of Aquaculture to secondary school teachers in the Caribbean.
Our mission is to communicate the importance of aquaculture and mariculture activities in the Caribbean and how they support the Fisheries sector. Our long-term vision is for the introductory concepts to be taught in the early years of high school.
The broad scope of aquaculture and its sub-sector mariculture is not well known publicly in the Caribbean. For 2024 we will be hosting a series of webinars to introduce the sectors of the aquaculture industry.
In this webinar, we will introduce aquaculture and mariculture activities around the Caribbean.
We want to thank Mr. Anesh Roopnarine for the production of this video for our webinar & sponsored by Utopia
DEFINITIONS
There are important globally accepted definitions approved by the United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) which help us to understand the differences and commonalities between frequently used words. For this webinar we want teachers to understand the concepts behind words that are used frequently in this industry.
Here we define, Aquaculture, Mariculture and Fisheries.

SPONSORSHIP REQUEST
As a team, we are very passionate about continuing our free webinars for 2024. However, there is a lot of background work and technology support to put these webinars together. CAEIH is one of its kind in the Caribbean bringing together all stakeholders who have an interest like us to see the growth of aquaculture in the Caribbean. We will be launching a GoFundMe to raise the funds to help us be more consistent with our outreach program. Please support us in any way you can.
In the meantime, there is a donate page on our website
and you can also sponsor us on this platform.
I would like to thank the following individuals for their support and continued dedication to our mission
Dr. Megan Davis
Sven Lapiner
Mia Avril
Megan Constandine
