Hello Everyone,
I have very exciting news to share. I have been invited to organize and Chair a session “Aquaculture in the Caribbean” at the Latin American and Caribbean chapter of the World Aquaculture Conference to be held in Medelin, Colombia from September 24 to September 27, 2024
I have attended the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) conferences in the United States, Asia and Europe for 15 years and have seen very few countries representing the CARICOM Secretariat present. Last year at the Latin American and Caribbean chapter of WAS held in Panama (LACQUA23) which I attend for the first time, I cannot recall seeing another English-speaking Caribbean aquaculuturist there either. Since then I have been on a mission to encourage more Caribbean representation at international aquaculture conferences. Like networking events that we hold online, in person conferences are extremely beneficial in the sharing of knowledge and gaining new contacts and collaborations. Truly there is nothing like an in person meetup of like minds and interests.
Watch my presentation from last year LACQUA23
I am encouraging farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and students to submit an abstract for a presentation or a poster. There is also a trade show for your interest. Please contact me if you are unsure about what you would like to present. All sectors and subsectors of Aquaculture will be of interest. You can now send me a direct message in the chat section of this platform.
All abstracts are due March 31, 2024.
Please submit them in English directly to the WAS site at the link below
https://www.was.org/Meeting/Abstract/Submit/LACQUA24
Imagine in one space where you can find some of the solutions to the challenges that the region is facing. The purpose of these conferences is to make connections & collaborate with others who are in a similar sector - no need to reinvent the wheel.
I am especially encouraging women scientists, farmers and entrepreneurs to attend. In collaboration with the Latin American women, we will have a session for Women in Aquaculture, and a reception to follow.
CAEIH has also been made a media representative for the conference. So a special incentive is that you will receive a discount on your registration if you send in an abstract.
One of the main reasons for the lack of attendance at international conferences of Caribbean research scientists, students, farmers and other industry payers is the cost. CAEIH would like to be able to send a minimum of 10 research scientists and 1 graduate student to this conference. And we need your help. If you can donate please contact me. This the first move to inform the global and regional community of what work is happening in the aquaculture sector.
WE WELCOME DONATIONS AND SPONSORSHIP TO HELP OUR SCIENTISTS GET TO COLOMBIA. PLEASE SEE THE DONATION PAGE OF THE CARIBBEAN AQUACULTURE HUB. ANY AMOUNT WILL HELP.

Medellín will be the headquarters of the Congress on Aquaculture in Latin America "Innovation and Sustainability for Global Aquaculture", which will include LACQUA 2024, THE VIII LATIN AMERICAN CONFERENCE ON NATIVE FISH CULTURE AND THE XI COLOMBIAN AQUACULTURE CONGRESS, from September 24 to 27, 2024 at the Plaza Mayor Convention Center.
