Support Youth in Caribbean Aquaculture
Fundraising - School visits in Jamaica for Grades 6 to 12
Hello Everyone
Happy December
For those of you who celebrate in the US, I hope that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
As the year closes out I am excited to share with you one of the projects that I have been working on for 2025.
There are so many negatives happening around the world I hope that we can make a difference in making positive changes in our Caribbean region.
One of the negatives I have been hearing about more and more is that the ‘youth’ of today do not want to work. Employees are complaining that they are unable to attain and keep this new Gen Z on staff. This comes with behavioral problems. Lack of respect towards their employees and a sense of entitlement.
I have my theories!
I am happy to say however, that in the past year the young volunteers of the Caribbean Aquaculture Hub, have blossomed and have worked very hard to spearhead the formation of the Youth in Caribbean Aquaculture. They are extremely passionate and excited about being able to become a part of positive growth in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

For 2025, the youth group from Jamaica is on a mission to inspire the next generation through aquaculture education! With a focus on integrating aquaculture into STEM programs for students in grades 6 to 12, these young leaders aim to showcase how science, technology, engineering, and math can solve real-world challenges in food security, marine conservation and sustainability. They will be introducing aquaculture as it relates to Jamaica and the Caribbean. Activities such as aquaponic systems, ornamental fish and tilapia farming, conch, oyster and seacucumber aquaculture are just some examples.
But they need your help to make it happen!
I am excited to share that the Youth Group falls under the Nonprofit that I started Caribbean Aquaculture Education and Innovation Hub
So any amount can be submitted as a tax free donation.
The group is raising funds to assist with transportation and to create professional marketing materials—flyers, brochures, and digital content—that will enable them to share their knowledge and passion with schools across Jamaica.
These tools will help them:
Engage students with exciting career opportunities in aquaculture.
Educate communities about the importance of sustainable food systems and the marine environment
Empower the next generation with practical STEM skills that address global challenges.
The Youth in Caribbean Aquaculture is the first organization formed in the Caribbean targeted to engage 16 to 25 year old Caribbean nationals to learn more and participate in Aquaculture and Mariculture projects in the Caribbean.
Despite the importance of aquaculture to Caribbean SIDS there are no programs targeted to this age group in Jamaica to engage our regional youth in learning scientific and innovative approaches to aquaculture and mariculture specific to the Caribbean.
The future of aquaculture in the Caribbean lies in the hands of our Caribbean scientists and entrepreneurs.
The Youth in Caribbean Aquaculture - started in Jamaica this year, made up of passionate scientists from the University of the West Indies, Mona campus. They are dedicated to empowering young people with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive in this vital and growing industry.
Your donation can make a difference! Whether big or small, every contribution helps these young advocates spread the word about the transformative potential of aquaculture and its importance to the Blue Economy throughout the Caribbean. Together, we can nurture not just fish but other aquacultured species such as sea cucumber, ornamental fish and oysters, but also the minds of future innovators and problem-solvers.
