This recording was made in January 20, 2022 by NasheikaGuyah for the online event “Future of fish farming” hosted by the Association for International Seafood Professionals (ASIP).
In this presentation Nasheika gives us a summary of the status of tilapia farming in Jamaica (January 2022) and the challenges that Jamaican farmers experience.
We also learn more about Nasheika's farm and her families solution to marketing tilapia which Jamaicans are culturally not incluned to eat. Watch till the end to see the delicious recipes that her father and their chef have created. You will definitely want to visit just to taste these mouthwatering creations.
There is so much potential to tilapia farming in Jamaica but first we must overcome the limits of energy costs and feed. Poaching is also a major problem in Jamaica.
With a focus on cultural sensitization it is hoped that the local market will grow
Nasheika Guyah is the Manager for Little's Hobby Hut Farm. While pursuing her PhD studies, Nasheika is an active member of the tilapia farming community in Jamaica.
